for the Petroleum Industry

Photomicroscopy of Rocks, Minerals, Particles, Microfossils, and Stained Biological
and Medical Slides for the Energy, Environmental, and Medical Industries
and Biological and Forensic Analysis

Services of PetroRes Sciences

Petroleum Geological Services:

  • Petrographic plane and polarized light microscopy and digital photomicrography of petroleum reservoir rocks.
  • Petrologic description and analysis of thin sections, rotary sidewall samples, well cuttings, and slabbed cores of reservoir rocks, both carbonates and siliciclastics.
  • Determination of sedimentary facies and depositional environments of both carbonate and siliciclastic reservoir rocks.
  • Identification and basic stratigraphic analysis of specific microfossils in sedimentary rocks of all ages.
  • Petroleum reservoir characterization and stratigraphic analysis of sedimentary sequences.
  • Recognition and identification of authigenic clays potentially harmful for petroleum production.
  • Geological description and stratigraphic analysis of slabbed cores.

Digital Photomicroscopy Services:

  • Petrographic description and digital photomicroscopy of any rock (sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic, fossiliferous, etc.), mineral, microfossil, or particle sample for the energy and environmental industries or forensic analysis.
  • Digital photomicrography of any microscope slide, including stained medical, biological, and forensic slides, in plane or polarized light.
  • Digital photomicrographs are sent to the client as printed photographs on glossy paper or as digital files that can be viewed on a monitor; the latter is faster and much less expensive.

Additional Services Available (please inquire):

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of reservoir rock samples.
  • X-ray diffraction analysis of reservoir rock samples.
  • Preparation of rock thin sections for petrographic analysis.
  • Photomicroscopy of biological slides in differential interference contrast (Nomarski).
  • Complete digital macrophotography of insects, flowers, small objects, etc.

PetroRes Sciences has over 30 years experience performing geological services for reservoir rocks of all ages from the world's major petroleum basins. The owner of PetroRes Sciences, Steven Schafersman, is a highly-trained sedimentary petrologist, micropaleontologist, microscopist, and former university professor. He has the equipment to complete any photomicroscopy or macrophotography task. He is known for his photographs of birds, butterflies, and fossils in addition to microscope slides and thin sections.

Please inquire for prices and scheduling. Our prices are quite reasonable and less expensive than the big city firms, but we are just as professional.

Photomicrographs of rocks, clay minerals, and microfossils will appear here soon.
